Tablet PC recommendation

I recently received this question via email:

"Good evening Dr Volpe,
I am about to buy a tablet pc, I would be grateful if you gave me the details (specifications). Within the next 12 months my office should be paperless . Phillip"

Phillip,

If you plan to get an EHR and have winnowed your choices down, the first step would be to ask the vendors what the minimum screen size should be. The second step, would be to actually attempt to use the products on such a screen. The third issue, is whether you or the vendors feel that a keyboard is necessary in the exam room. If the answer is yes, then you would need a convertable tablet. If the answer is no, you can shave 0.5 to 1.0 pounds from the weight of the unit by going with a slate.
The fourth issue is the CPU.Most of the Tablets will now have either Intel Core Solo, Core Duo , Core 2 Duo processors which will be fine. The fifth issue is RAM. I would pay the extra money to have a full Gig.
Motion Computing will be selling the C5, which has a 10.4 screen, and is worth a look.

Here are some useful links.

Hi Max,

I am not familiar with the build quality or warranty for the Gateways.
I have however been impressed with the Fujitsus, Lenovos and Toshibas.

I think if you do a feature comparison as in the previous post, you can have a better idea if the extra cost is warranted. Check things like the screen tablet and the feel of the keyboard.
I checked the Gateway site but could not get find the weight which is another important variable.

You would probably do well sticking with a 12 inch screen as it may shave off some weight.

Make sure that talk to the software vendor about which flavor of Vista is compatible.
They still be recommending Windows XP Pro.
